The Torigoe Shrine Grand
Festival 10th June
The highlight of this annual festival is the 12- hour parade through
the local streets, climaxing in the return to The Torigoe Shrine
in the evening when the mikoshi is lit up. The Sengan-mikoshi
weighs around 4-tons and takes over 100 people to carry it.
Access: 6 minutes walk from the West exit of Asakusabashi station
(A16) on the JR or Asakusa line.
The Sanno Festival 10th
- 16th June
In comparison to the other traditional Tokyo festivals this festival
is more of a stately celebration at the Hie Shrine
Access: 8 minutes walk from Akasaka-Mitsuke (G05/M13) subway station
on the Ginza or Marunouchi line.
Flowers in bloom this month
June Hydrangea - Better known as
Ajisai these bright flowers add a wonderful and welcome color
to the rainy season. A must see is the Festival Of Hydrangeas
at the Hakusan shrine.
Access: A 3-minute walk from Hakusan station (I13), Toei Mita
Line / A 5-minute walk from Hon-Komagome station. (N13) Nanboku
Line
Takahata Hudo-son. Kongo-ji Temple Both in the
temple and on the hill behind, more than 7,500 hydrangeas show
their beauty.
Access: Takahata Hudo Station, Keio Line
Meigetsu-In in Kamakura
Access: 700 meters east-southeast of Kita-Kamakura Station

Antique Festival at The Ryutsu Center 23rd
- 25th June
Over 250 dealers from all over Japan converge on this the largest
of the antique markets. Plenty of antique household goods and art
works, paintings, hanging scrolls and old folk utensils, which are
sold at good prices.
Access: Take the bus for Ryutsu Center Oomori station, Keihin Tohoku
line or Heiwajima station, Keihin Kyuko line.
