Ebisu/Hiroo
Area
Ebisu is the home of Yebisu Garden Place,
a huge shopping/hotel/office facility built on top of and in the
spirit of an antique brewery. The whole "place" is done
in dark red brick and the central plaza features fountains, flower
gardens and beautiful artwork. One of Tokyo's best Mitsukoshi
Departments stores is here as well as a theatre that prides itself
in a collection of artsy/indie movies (this is where I saw "Bowling
for Columbine" when it first came to Japan). The Westin Hotel
here features Tokyo's most extravagant Christmas tree and I will
often stop by in December to get nostalgic for the holiday spirit
(holiday spirit doesn't kick in until around December 28 here).
This area also features excellent hole-in-the-wall restaurants
as well Pizza Hut and two great fitness centers.
